Is TV Dead?

I probably spend about 7+ hours online a day, between my phone, iPad and laptop.
Teens probably spend about 5 hours a day online a day.
They used to spend around 30 hours a week watching t.v, but there's been a drop in audience figures between 16-24 year olds because they are mostly online a lot more.

16-24 year olds have revolutionised the way television is perceived these days. They are the next generation of adults; if they don't watch t.v now when they are teenagers, the chances are, they're going to continue doing stuff online instead, so t.v will rarely be around when they are older.

BBC iPlayer is good because it allows people to watch anything from t.v that they might have missed and want to catch up on.

Social networking sites are the new way forward because they are constantly being updated for better use. For example, things like Facebook and Twitter allow people to link to other websites, which may play t.v shows on demand.

T.V needs the youth market because they are the next generation. They will be the ones paying the next generation on television tax. If they don't watch t.v, who will pay the tax?

Advertising is affected by the youth market. There are constant adverts all over the social network sites they are on, and they may not even realise it. Subliminal messaging may also be used.
They may advertise a new t.v show specifically for the teen market, trying to focus on getting teenagers back into watching t.v.

Skins used the media to promote themselves.
When Skins was first ready to air, Myspace was the biggest social networking site at that time.
Myspace used a video trailer to promote it, and get the users to spread it around on each other's pages.

In class, i watched a short t.v program about the topic of t.v dying due to the amount of teenagers failing to watch it. In the program, it discussed how teenagers were more inclined to spend hours on the internet, be it on a laptop, or on their phones, than sit down and watch t.v. Most of them when questioned, said that they much rather watch a t.v show on demand from the internet, than watch it when it's aired on t.v.

  1. Well done Jade - a good post. Perhaps just insert the fact that you watched a TV prog about this topic in class and this is how your opinions were effected. Maybe a pic to illustrate your points too would be nice. Cam :)
